Quite often, people have the misconception that locksmiths have it easy on their jobs. They imagine that when they are called, all they do is to simply come, then work on a broken lock and then leave. But this cannot be further from the truth, since locksmithing is a learned art.
For example, when a locksmith is asked to open a lock without a key, they need to have their wits about them since the lock has to be worked on in a certain way. They also need to use their ears so that they can listen to the internal mechanisms twist in the right direction. Failure to do this will mean that the lock may have to broken down.
In the same way, when you have locked your car keys in the car, locksmiths will normally jimmy the lock till it opens. This needs skill, and to do it in the right way without damaging the car, one needs experience and treat the job like an art.
Lastly, when a safe’s combination lock is lost, locksmiths will usually open the safe manually. It is normally tedious work that requires one to estimate the locks combination by listening to the clicks made by the dial on the safe. So, locksmiths do not consider their jobs as work, rather they see it as an art due to the complexity that their jobs sometimes needs.
